Last night I needed to take my wife and child to the urgent care for an ear ache my step son was having. Once we got to the clinic they went inside while my daughter and I drove across the street to wait for them at the Barnes and Noble. I picked up the first marketing book that caught my interest and proceeded up the escalator to let her play in the children section while we wait for my Wife’s call to come pick them up. The marketing book was titled, “The 22 Immutable laws of marketing: Violate them at your own risk!”.

One way to make money online is by starting a blog about the things you love. When deciding your topic, also try to keep the competitive business markets in mind when choosing catagories. For example, if you want to start a personal blog about beauty and family, consider writing about health and travel also. Hilton Grand Vacations will pay affiliates $25 for each referral made. If you write a few hundred posts over the next couple years about Traveling to different areas, this could really pay off.

CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheets. Basically it’s code that will define how html elements are displayed on your website. With CSS implemented on your site, this can eliminate hours of work when it comes to making or editing font size and colors. CSS will also reduce the size of your page. If you have a page with a long menu made up of images, these can easily be converted to css buttons. By replacing 20 images with 20 css buttons your page load time will increase some. I’ve been getting more familiar with socail media lately. I found some time to get on Twitter and found it was a useful tool which opened the door to some new marketing possibilities. Once logged in, my plan was not to go spam a shit load of twitter people. Instead I just checked it out and got to know how the community works. It was pretty simple. Once registered I dropped a few lines talking about what I was doing. That’s basically what it does, it lets you update your page with little short tidbits on what you are doing at that moment. I’ve been reading articles and blog posts online stating SEO is dead or has no future. Is there a such thing as “NOT” being able to optimize a website for search engine performance? Of course not. There will always be something you can do to help your website rank higher. Therefore, there will always be SEO. As long as search engines exist, seo will exist. Some people assume that seo is just the practice of link building or working on a website’s onsite keyword density for higher rankings. These are just a couple ingredients used for search engine ranking.

I recently recieved an email from a company who sells automotive cleaning products. They were holding an interesting contest for car clubs. His email provided quick details about the contest and the Grand prize for first place which was a $1500 donation towards the car club’s choice in a charity. He then went on to ask, “Can I write up a nice detailed page about this contest for you to post on your automotive website?” After some thought I said I would. Continue Reading »

I figured I’d ramble on a bit about requesting links. Have you ever asked for a link? Were you successful? Most times you ask for a link you’ll probably get ignored. But then sometimes you’ll get one. I’ve had people actually ask me one day for a link and then ask me one more time the following day assuming I ignored their first attempt. Continue Reading »

Someone who was visiting another blog of mine asked me today “Whats the point of comment links if you nofollow them?” I answered, “so the commentator can introduce their website to the community or blogger as they contribute to the subject. I personally don’t feel I need to cast a vote to Google every time someone makes a comment”. Then I pointed them over to commenthunt.com.
Deciding whether or not you should make your blog “dofollow” really depends on the subject you write about. If it’s a personal blog with a variety of non-competitive subjects I’d probably follow commentator links for the attention and feedback. If it’s a commercial blog in a competitive market, I get more sensitive about giving out external links.

Last month Google slammed carinsurancerates.com for the buying of links. I’ve seen this website rank #1 for “car insurance” for months. Even though it seemed to be a decent clean-cut website, it tanked in rank about a month ago. After doing some research it seemed as if they were buying massive amount of links from brokers as well as blog networks.

People seem to place focus on the things that are funny, controversal, unfamiliar and odd. Sometimes being a smart ass can also get the attention your looking for, if done correctly. I love to see advertisements built by the creative mind.
