Link building with contests

I recently recieved an email from a company who sells automotive cleaning products. They were holding an interesting contest for car clubs. His email provided quick details about the contest and the Grand prize for first place which was a $1500 donation towards the car club’s choice in a charity. He then went on to ask, “Can I write up a nice detailed page about this contest for you to post on your automotive website?” After some thought I said I would. Read this post

Someone who was visiting another blog of mine asked me today “Whats the point of comment links if you nofollow them?” I answered, “so the commentator can introduce their website to the community or blogger as they contribute to the subject. I personally don’t feel I need to cast a vote to Google every time someone makes a comment”. Then I pointed them over to commenthunt.com.

Deciding whether or not you should make your blog “dofollow” really depends on the subject you write about. If it’s a personal blog with a variety of non-competitive subjects I’d probably follow commentator links for the attention and feedback. If it’s a commercial blog in a competitive market, I get more sensitive about giving out external links.

After doing some research it seemed as if they were buying massive amount of links from brokers as well as blog networks.
