You can block landing pages in your robots.txt and go to town. You can go invest in a bunch of links to landing pages on a monthly basis. Track performance on each link to your landing pages. Two months later dump the non-performers and reinvest in your top performers. Also, for the white hat, you can also market your link bait via no-follow paid links. Some sites may eventually end up talking about you website. In conclusion, never rule out paying for links as long as you do it the right way. The right way will depend on the hat you wear.
