People seem to place focus on the things that are funny, controversal, unfamiliar and odd. Sometimes being a smart ass can also get the attention your looking for, if done correctly. I love to see advertisements built by the creative mind.

I asked my 8 year old daughter, “Quickly, tell me a commercial you know off the top of your head. Unexpectedly, She tells me about the Progressive commercial. I was expecting something like Toys R US. So I went to ask, what was the commercial about? She replied, they were buying insurance in a box from the cashier. I guess the commericial fit into the unfamiliar and odd category which kept her attention. This is something to think about when investing in banner advertising online. Being a little creative can really pay off. By putting some thought into a banner design, it could mean a much better click through rate. This is especially important for CPM banner advertising. CPM is cost per 1000 impressions. Since it’s not cost per click, attracting many clicks is crucial. A good rule of thumb is to be creative without losing focus of who your target audience is.
