So where did it all begin. Some of the first internet marketing I did was on Ebay back in the late 90s. I began by selling odd ball things here and there and this worked great, up until I ran out of things around the house to sell. I loved the new hobbie I found so it couldn’t stop there. The next move I made was getting myself set up with a drop ship company which gave me the opportunity to sell car audio supplies and other electronics online. Let me tell you what a headache this was. After selling a product, sometimes I’d followup with the drop ship company who was supposed to ship it only to find it was now out of stock or discontinued. Great, I thought, thanks for the heads up pale. Now I had to return the buyers payment and lose any credibility I had with that customer. As you all probably already know, when you make a customer happy, often times they’ll turn into a repeat customer. On top of losing the sale and the credibility, I also lost money used for Ebay non-refundable seller fees.
Example 2 of why this Drop ship Company Sucked
Now get this, every so often the drop ship company would confirm shipment just to find out a week later they made a mistake. Now I had a pissed customer who’s been waiting excited for the last week. I don’t blame them. That was the last draw, I quit the drop ship game after this happened. I eventually applied for a retail license and set myself up with a local wholesaler. Anything worth doing is worth doing right. I now was receiving greater discounts and a safe back stock of products. I began selling car audio supplies without the headaches of working with a middle man. Now the only problem I faced was ebay fees. These fees are what pushed me into web development, search internet marketing and the seo scene. I still remember my first e-commerce site built of strictly html code, paypal buttons and some iframe product pages. Remember those days? This is how and where it all began…
