I’ve been getting more familiar with socail media lately. I found some time to get on Twitter and found it was a useful tool which opened the door to some new marketing possibilities. Once logged in, my plan was not to go spam a shit load of twitter people. Instead I just checked it out and got to know how the community works. It was pretty simple. Once registered I dropped a few lines talking about what I was doing. That’s basically what it does, it lets you update your page with little short tidbits on what you are doing at that moment.
Another cool feature is the updates you can send to your page by using your mobile. Stuck waiting for your ride? Send a twitter message. So a few of my first messages went like, “checking out Twitter” and “Dealing with the kid’s cool-aid mess” etc. After a few messages I went on to search for others who share my interests. The more people you find that you can relate to, the more you can learn.

Education with Twitter

Continuing my studies in the insurance industry, I decided to search for a few Insurance Agents. After reading a post on one Agents blog which I found linked from her Twitter profile, I decided to follow her to stay up to date with any valuable information she may have to say. I also added some Guy by the username adwordsguru. I don’t really get into PPC all that much so any information on PPC Marketing that he posts I will be able to see on my profile page.

By following the right people you can stay informed on valuable information concerning your industry.

Marketing with Twitter

You may also find it useful for searching out advertising opportunities. Friends you make and those who come across your website from Twitter may give you a link or Digg. Also, many Twitter users will place thier website address in the upper right hand corner of the profile. If you want to only market your website to the local area, do a search your city. You’ll be able to find a good amount of local Twitter users this way. Some will have websites posted that may offer an affordable advertising solution for your local business.
