Forum Marketing, Be a Toilet Sticker

Published by admin at 1:05 pm under marketing

I’m always giving attention to advertising strategies that I come across both online and offline. I found that sometimes offline strategies can open doors to new “online marketing ideas”. This morning I once again found myself reading an employment opportunity sticker posted on a toilet paper roll dispenser in the bathroom just outside my office.

It probably gets a couple minutes of viewing by roughly 20 employees daily. 5 minutes viewing from me, I like to read and send text messages. Anyways, a couple hundred of these stickers around town can probably get this company a decent amount of attention.

This kind of reminds me of forum spam… when you look at it that way. The only difference is forum spam usually gets deleted. Who wants to sit there and peel away a sticker. It’s been there for about a week, so nobody seems in a rush to tear it away. When it comes to advertising in forums it’s important to “Stick” by keeping the community in mind. Put a little adhesive behind your thread by providing the forum developer and their readers with some useful information. Some forums powered by phpbb provide “view poster’s website” and “poster’s email” image links near the footer of the threads you write, like the the one shown below.

From an SEO perspective, this probably isn’t all that useful for SE rank, but by providing good information to the community you’ll be more likely to get a few visits compared to a spam thread which will eventually be deleted.
