Link Requesting, Don’t ask just anyone…
I figured I’d ramble on a bit about requesting links. Have you ever asked for a link? Were you successful? Most times you ask for a link you’ll probably get ignored. But then sometimes you’ll get one. I’ve had people actually ask me one day for a link and then ask me one more time the following day assuming I ignored their first attempt. If your going to ask for links you might as well ask website owners who would be more interested in taking the time. How do you do this. Find the interested parties. Some bloggers get thousands of links by talking great about there pick for presidency or talkin $hit about another. If someone discusses facts as well there feelings about someone running for president and they present the information well, how many people could they find that would agree? If you asked a bunch of bloggers, who you already know strongly agree with what you, to give your article a read, how many friends or links will you get?
BTW, What do you prefer, friends or links? I prefer making friends, makes life that much more enjoyable. I’ll discuss some thoughts on Social Media later.
Anyways, back to requesting links. Sometimes I’ll ask websites who link to other related sites. The way you do this is by finding a related page and doing the link:relatedwebsite.com search in yahoo. Another way is to find link pages about your topic. If you run a car audio store, a good place to start is by doing a search for “car audio” inurl:links or car audio inurl:resources. If you get a response it may either be that your link was added or it may be that the webmaster would like to exchange links with you. Even though an exchange isn’t nearly as strong as that 1 way link, it can still help. If you get some traffic from the link exchange it may be worth your while. Especially if the site is an authority. When I search for linking opportunities this way, I’ll do my search in yahoo with the SEO for Firefox turned on. This way I can check the PR as I go through the results. The main reason I do this is to confirm it’s been indexed by Google and Ill also go ahead and check the pages number of inbound links and sometimes the Alexa rank.
Sometimes asking for links can get really tedious. When I request links, I’ll usually first start out by finding 10 potential websites who I believe may link to me with only a request using the ideas listed above. Then I’ll write up the custom email requests. finally I’ll begin emailing my requests.
